Samsung Digimax A55W 5MP Digital Camera with 4.8x Wide Angle Zoom (Black) Reviews.

Product Description:

Camera shake prevention
The Digimax A55W provides a camera shake prevention function to avoid camera shake during movie recording. This function detects camera shake automatically and traces the target subject when recording a movie. With the movie function making this digital camera a perfect substitute for a small digital camcorder, the Digimax A55W is very useful to take pictures of family events or your normal life.

Successive recording function
In terms of existing movie recording functions, users have difficulty editing recorded movies. The Digimax A55W implements part of editing functions of a computer and the successive recording function developed through Samsung's own technology that enables you to temporarily stop during unwanted scenes and resume recording the movie. Using this function, you can record your favorite scenes into a movie clip without having to create multiple movie clips. Those implementations enable users to use recording movie functions easily and conveniently.

The Digimax A55W implements part of the editing function only available in a computer. You can select and cut the desired part from the recorded movie and save it by creating a new file so that you can

use this camera more conveniently when editing a movie clip. You may want to save desired scenes while recording a movie with a digital camera. The Digimax A55W reflects the requirement so that you can capture a scene from the movie clip. When you don't take pictures while recording a movie, you can extract desired frames from the recorded movie.

PictBridge (Direct Printing System)
You can use a USB cable to connect this camera to a printer without a PC, and select paper types and sizes supported by the printer from a menu in the camera. Through the LCD of the camera, you can check the printer's progress status. PictBridge is completely compatible with DPOF so that you can also use the existing output format (DPOF) according to the printer type.

Voice Recording and Voice Memo

Wide angle zoom a big selling point, January 11, 2006
Reviewer: ginmar "book/digital addict"
This is a decent small camera whose wide angle ability is its major selling point. The body is compact and sturdy, the controls simple, and all it has a very handy easy to use design. The drawbacks are a somewhat harsh flash and the fact that it takes AA batteries, which means it goes through them at quite a clip. Get rechargeables if you get this camera: the wide angle is irrisistable for scenery, so you'll wind up using it a lot.

Samsung--in for the long haul, January 5, 2006
Reviewer: Fred B. Morrison

I have NO brand loyalty, so I never know what I may end up with. In my review of the Kodak P880 I made it clear what I don't want--a same-old same-old 38-114
(equivalent) focal length lens. Man, the woods are full of 'em.
Curiously, this Samsung has nearly identical specs to models available from Ricoh
and Rollei. So who really makes it? I don't know, and maybe it doesn't matter.
With over 30 years in serious photography and 25 years in photo retail, I've seen
a lot of failure and success. Some of the names which were big in film are in
precarious shape in the digital age. Pentax, Olympus, and Konica-Minolta are struggling. Only Canon shows genuine success in this market.
The big players here are the electronics giants like Sony, Panasonic, and...
Samsung. They never really found a niche with film cameras, but this enormous
conglomerate is poised to be a major player in the future.
This modestly-priced model has a very useful zoom range of 28-135, and the goods to produce impressive looking 12x18 inch prints IF you avoid the higher ISO settings, a caveat which applies to nearly every other brand as well. Color is bright without being over-saturated, and the lens is reasonably flare-resistant, so backlit
shots are not a problem.
I was attracted to this camera because of one of the trick features which is supposed to isolate a subject by mimicking an out of focus background. I haven't quite mastered this feature, but I shall keep at it.
Technical wizardry aside, the A55W is worth consideration for its extended zoom range alone.
Based on my early results with the camera I'm finally ready to declare Samsung a
major player. All they need is one breakthrough product to become a leader rather
than simply an also-ran.
